Society for Adverse Outcome Pathways joins ASCCT and ESTIV

The Society for the Advancement of Adverse Outcome Pathways (SAAOP) is a small but dedicated group that was established in 2012 to support the cloud and server infrastructure of the AOP-Wiki and promote the global advancement of AOPs in cooperation with the OECD. Over the years, the SAAOP has provided Wiki access to AOP authors; offered guidance, gardening, education and training; and organized virtual conferences and other activities.

Our societies have much in common and decided to join forces to save resources and infrastructure. Starting from 2025, SAAOP members should transition to becoming members of either ASCCT or ESTIV. When they join either society they can indicate their desire to be part of an internal SAAOP interest group. These groups will continue to support the functions and activities of the SAAOP with cross-society leadership and communication helping to ensure that the impact of the SAAOP can continue to grow.

Current members will need to notify the Secretary if they would like to join the group. Associate members of SAAOP, who previously were not asked to pay dues, will now need to pay dues to either ASCCT or ESTIV to continue membership with SAAOP.

Funding Support: A major role of the SAAOP has been, and continues to be, providing and facilitating financial and technical support for the AOP Wiki. This means consistent funding for the server space and web domain to host the AOP Wiki and AOP "training" wiki, support for technical updates and improvements, and some work to continue advancing the features of the AOP Wiki to help facilitate its continued development and functionality as a tool for toxicology research and decision-making. By joining the SAAOP with ASCCT and ESTIV, we are able to accept donations and contracts for these activities.

In 2026 and 2027, ASCCT received significant financial support from UL Research Institutes' Chemical Insights. This support allows for continued functionality and technical improvements to the AOP Wiki and is gratefully received by the SAAOP community.
